Moving add-on services – protection, packing, recycling and assembly
Additional services are extra services for move customers that make moving and settling into a new home easier. From Opiskelijamuutot you can get furniture protection, packing and unpacking help, recycling of items, and the assembly and disassembly of items — all with your move. The services are ordered together with the move, and the price is based on an hourly rate and the size of the service.

Protection service
Our movers provide professional surface protection for furniture when the service is ordered separately before the move. Protection is charged by the hourly rate and by the size of the protection job:
Small protection: 1–5 items, €25
Large protection: more than 5 items, €50
The size, shape or material of an item doesn't affect the price — a sofa and a small chest of drawers count the same. We can also protect floors and walkways. If you have your own protective materials, we charge only the hourly rate. For protecting things yourself, you can also get comprehensive materials from packing supplies.
Packing service
In the packing service, our staff pack or unpack your belongings professionally, as you wish. It can be done with your move, in which case the charge is based on the hourly rate in the quote, or on a separate day, for which we draw up a separate quote.
Packing works best into sturdy moving boxes or cardboard boxes, which we can deliver for the packing service.
Recycling service
We take your items for recycling to the recycling centre and sorting station run by HSY (the Helsinki region's waste-management authority) as part of your move. Let us know your recycling wish when you book the move. The charge is made up of the time at the hourly rate plus a recycling cost, which is determined by the amount and material of the items being recycled:
Small recycling: €25
Large recycling: €50

Assembly service
We help with assembling and disassembling items, and with fitting and detaching them, as part of your move. Our staff are not specialised in demanding construction or electrical installation work, so for those we recommend turning to a professional in the field.
Washing machines and tumble dryers: we can help with disconnecting, but installation requires an authorised installer and a permit.
Dishwashers: we cannot disconnect or install dishwashers, because this requires an authorised professional.
Moving boxes and packing supplies
You get moving boxes and packing supplies separately, from their own pages. Moving-box rental is 17 cents per box per day, and you get them either by delivery to your door or free of charge on loan with your own pickup as part of the move. See moving boxes and see packing supplies.
Frequently asked questions about additional services
Can I use my own protective materials?
Yes. If you have your own protective materials, we charge only the hourly rate for the protection. If needed, you can also get comprehensive protective materials from us.
Do you help with packing and unpacking belongings?
Yes. We pack and unpack your belongings as you wish, with your move or on a separate day. Tell us your need in your quote request and we'll take it into account in the quote.
Where do you take items for recycling?
We take items for recycling to HSY's recycling centre and sorting station as part of your move. Let us know your recycling wish when you book the move.
Do you install a washing machine or dishwasher?
We can help with disconnecting a washing machine and tumble dryer, but installation requires an authorised installer. We do not disconnect or install dishwashers, because that requires an authorised professional.

It's best to order the additional services when you book the move, so they can be taken into account in the schedule and quote. The protection service, for example, is always ordered before the move.
